My biggest fear is that they'll discontinue them. Like nothing I've ever ridden!! Yamaha also has a stellar reputation for customer service. It's designed for a short shift (2,500 - 3,000 rpm) because it develops SO MUCH power between shifts. It just creates better throttle response. You can be doing 80 down the freeway and hit. It has a sport mode and a tour mode switch on the right handlebar controls. It also has a gear driven reverse and it works bitchin! I'm reading the book a little every night. John would have it figured out in minutes. The Yamaha Star Venture JUST KICKS ASS with a pushrod 1854 cc big block V-Twin!!!!! The touch screen technology is equal to or surpasses the Goldwing. Here’s what he has to say about his newest acquisition: And he quotes, “If anyone wants the laundry list of things that have gone wrong with the Indian, let me know and I'll provide it and tell you about some inherent design flaws with the ThunderStroke 111 engine.” He recently dumped his Indian Roadmaster after a slew of mechanical issues. My buddy is a motorbike whore who goes through sickles pretty quick. Rode one for a while and the mass goes away as soon as you let out the clutch. Pre 2018 Goldwings are another masterpiece of 2 up touring, mileage, handling, space, low maintenance and have the reputation to back it up. It's really a nice bike they basically use the same chassis for their larger touring rigs. A friend has a 2016 Road King and I hate to like it. They are actually comfortable, smooth, decent handling, good brakes, low maintenance, good mileage machines. I don't know if its a personal thing for you but the pirate thing is only if you make it a pirate thing. Lots of non pirate 2 up touring comfort rigs to be had. Also, if you don't need or want the lastest and greatest, buy used and you will have tons of leftover money for your trip. Reviews have been positive on the Venture. I wouldn't worry so much about first year teething issues as warranties will cover misfortune. My advise is to shop with the Wifey and have her sit on it with you. I always like bikes and cars that aren't 'Me Too' vehicles.
